ONE ALDWYCH LONDON

Location: The Aldwych, London
Architect: Jestico +Whiles

One Aldwych is a luxury 5 star hotel situated in the City of Westminster in London. Converted into a hotel in 1998, the building originally served as the headquarters of the Morning Post Newspaper. Designed by the same architects who designed both Ritz hotels in Paris and London, Mewes and Davis, the building is a Grade II listed building occupying a prominent site at the located at the western end of the intersection between the new Aldwych crescent and The Strand, a focal point of the northward vista from Waterloo Bridge.

Planning and listed building consent was attained to add a rooftop extension to the building in order to increase the key count from 105 to 125 via an additional floor. In addition to the building’s proximity to Somerset House, the proposals required careful consideration with regards to LVMF views, local views, and its Grade II listing. The proposals received unanimous consent from Westminster’s Council in May 2016.
